Beauty and History in Every Corner of Puebla

The state of Puebla is an incredible example of the rich history and the striking legacy of sacred art, churches, convents and colonial buildings that Mexico has to offer. Travelers can enjoy a unique art and history tour of the state, starting in the capital city, Puebla. Known as the City of Angels, and a World Heritage Site, Puebla has some 5,000 colonial buildings, convents and churches, all remarkable examples of the baroque style.

Along the road to Cholula from Puebla, you can find two amazing structures: the church of San Francisco Acatepec, an elaborate Spanish baroque temple covered with multicolored Talavera tiles, and the peculiar church of Santa Maria Tonanzintla, with its western Catholic concepts created by native hands.

The route ends at Cholula, where two marvelous convents are located: San Gabriel, one of the best preserved convents from the 16th century, and Huejotzingo, from the San Franciscan order, well-known for its cider, fruit marmalade and typical clothing.

Experience this journey through the intertwined history of two opposite cultures that gave birth to some of the most remarkable pieces of art, only in Puebla.

Cancun is home to the World's Largest Underwater Museum

Cancun has unveiled its most recent venture, the World's Largest Underwater Museum. The National Park West Coast of Isla Mujeres, Punta Cancun and Punta Nizuc, will feature more than 400 concrete sculpture figurines by British underwater sculptor Jason de Caires Taylor.

Several theme-based installations will be featured, with each piece being life-sized, such as an army of indigenous Mayan people entitled "The Silent Evolution" and other sculptures such as the "Dream Collector" who catalogues messages in bottles set adrift from various corners of the world. Additional artists will be asked to participate once the 400 pieces have been placed. So far the first three sculptures have already been sunk.

The museum is a great alternative for divers seeking a new experience for their next underwater adventure and is surrounded by hundreds of species of colorful fish and coral found in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. This new museum is also part of the challenge to conserve the natural coral reefs by diverting tourists away from them, yet still attracting them to the region with this new man-made habitat.
